This year’s competition was especially exciting, with the top three state contestants all tying in score and separated only by their completion times.

The Central Coast was exceptionally well represented this year, with students from Mission College Prep, San Luis Obispo High School, Santa Maria High School, and Paso Robles High School all competing proudly at the state level. Even more impressive, all four participating Central Coast schools placed within the Top 14 statewide rankings, showcasing the incredible talent, hard work, and dedication of our local students

Our local top local finishers were:

1st Place: Chloe Elliot

2nd Place: Kanna Mashio

3rd Place: Carter Simpson

We are especially proud that Chloe Elliott earned the title of 2026 California State Trig-Star Champion and went on to represent California in the National Trig-Star Competition. Watching students challenge themselves, discover the practical applications of mathematics, and learn about the land surveying profession has been incredibly rewarding. Every year the program continues to inspire students, strengthen connections with our schools, and highlight the amazing young talent we have here on the Central Coast.

I also want to give a very special and heartfelt thank you to Leonard Lenger, who started the Trig-Star program in our chapter back in 1984, and to Randy Woodjack and George Marchecko for carrying the program forward and supporting these past 40 years. Their dedication, passion, and commitment built a tradition that has positively impacted generations of students while helping promote and strengthen the surveying profession throughout our region.

As I step away from this role, I could not be happier to pass the baton to Joshia Tiner, who I know will continue growing and strengthening the program for years to come. I am excited to see the future of Trig-Star in such capable hands and look forward to watching the program continue to thrive for the next generation of students and surveyors.

Luz Garcia

2026 CCC CLSA Trig Star Chair

The Central Coast was exceptionally well represented this year, with students from Mission College Prep, San Luis Obispo High School, Santa Maria High School, and Paso Robles High School all competing proudly at the state level.
