This being the first meeting of the year, the first order of business was the installation of the 2026 Officers. 2025 President, <strong>Tucker Sanders<\/strong> performed the ceremony, installing <strong>Marco Castaneda<\/strong> as President, <strong>Eric Krasner<\/strong> and newly licensed <strong>Laird Nelson<\/strong> as Secretary-Treasurer.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to the installation of officers, at the business meeting, <strong>Luz Garcia<\/strong> as a member of the Education Committee announced that the Committee is going to put on a seminar for engineers and contractors on construction staking. The seminar will have instructors from a number of surveying firms in the area to explain how construction staking is performed and what is being conveyed by the stake markings. Also, during the business meeting <strong>Robert Reese<\/strong>, chair of the Monument Conservation committee asked for any member to let him know of any agency that might not be following the law concerning monument conservation on a specific project to contact him with the details. The hope is a good case can be presented to the Board, that would provide definitive direction from the board on these types of contraventions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking of monument conservation, beyond the business meeting, there was a &#8220;surprise&#8221; program put on by <strong>Clayton Bradshaw <\/strong>of Wallace Group. Clayton directed a spirited discussion about the various ways surveyors perform the pre and post construction monument conservation surveys. As you might imagine there was much discussion from surveyors representing different companies and how they do their surveys. The discussion was more of a &#8220;best methods&#8221; for doing these surveys, than a &#8220;my way or the highway&#8221;. There was discussion about showing limits of construction, showing what was searched for but not found and how reference monuments should be marked. There was a good discussion about what is durable especially when it concerns finding an existing original monument.
